  • Never Again!!! - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my 99 Jeep used a couple years ago and I doubt Ill ever buy another. If it wasnt for the extended warranty Id be in the poor house. The a/c went out three times and the heat twice. The entire rear-end has been replaced twice. Im finding it almost impossible to sell or trade.

I have 3 cars right now, a 1999 BMW 325is, a 2000 Ford Taurus and a 1999 Jeep. Out of the three cars I have to say the Jeep is more reliable then any of them. I am the 3rd owner on the Jeep and 2nd on the Ford. They both had about the same mileage on them at time of purchase. I will recommend this Jeep to anyone who wants the 4x4 capability with luxury like a Cadillac.

Very poor reliability. It is a shame because the interior is very nice.

  • No longer the all american classic. - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I hate this vehicle. So far I have had the transmission, transfer case and front axle and oil pressure gauge replaced, the computer system overhauled, and countless other small problems and the truck still does not work right. The dealership says they can never find the source of the problems (clunking, grinding, hard shifts, steering noise, and horrible performance). LOOK AT THE RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE. Do not buy a 1999 or 2000, especially with Quadra-drive.

  • Its a Jeep! - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Well Ive had to replace the ignition cylinder. The driver door power lock is acting up, and at 61,000 miles had to replace the engine (4.0). Thankfully it was covered under the extended warranty. Rear diff is noisy. They get you with style over reliability, but that should be well known by now.

I BOUGHT MY JEEP A YEAR AGO AT 35OOO MILES. I HAVENT HAD ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL I TOOK IT TO A SKI TRIP. I DONT KNOW IF IT WAS THE COLD WEATHER THAT MADE THE TRANSMISSION SLIP, BUT WHEN I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A GOOD THING I BROUGHT IT IN WHEN I DID. IT COSTED ME AROUND 1700 DOLLARS TO GET IT REPLACED. CHRYSLER, I LIKE THE DESIGN AND UR ENGINES BUT DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE SQUEAKING OF THE DIFFERENTIALS, TRANSMISSIONS AND BRAKES IN COLD WEATHER...IM LOOKING INTO JAPANESE VEHICLES. MAKE IT RELIABLE

My wife and I have owned four other Jeeps prior to this one, all of which we were very pleased with. We bought this one and also bought the extended warranty. We have many mechanical problems with this one that we didnt have with the others including new transmission, fuel pump & regulator, axle bearings, taillight assemblies shorting out, warped rotors, calipers that stick, and wind noise. Fortunately, everything has been covered under the warranty. Overall, it has a rock-solid motor, good styling & good value. I am not unhappy with the car, but I would be if we didnt have the warranty. Our warranty runs out in two more years, and we will probably sell it just before that.

  • Good up to 75,000 miles only - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My Jeep was great until after 75,000 miles. It assumes it has no second hand value. Car hesitates at 100,000 miles, doesnt take charge on the highway any more. Improve on the electrical constructions. Airbags and check engine signs go off all the time. Please improve on those, if the airbag and engine lights come on without annoying beeps/noise it will be tolerated. Begin to use high quality materials for we Jeep lovers. The annoying thing is that anytime its serviced, cost of repair run in $700- thousands. There are too many repairs done that I cannot mention cause of time. Jeep company can do better!

  • I HAVE BEEN SICK OF THIS THING! - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Nothing but TROUBLE since day one! In our 4th set of rotors. Fuel pump replaced a couple of times. New radiator this year. Spent over $3k in repairs in 03 and over $1k so far in 04. At 100k miles, things started falling apart with this piece of junk. Rear end overhauled and left rear bearing replaced 3 times. Constant wind noise on right side from 2nd month-vibrating weather stripping- "Cant replicate" says Mr. Dealer- cant fix what they cant hear!......

I have owned a couple of vehicles in my day, but this SUV drives like a car. Has the power of a Tow Truck. And Sits like a sofa. The only problem I have ever had with it was the Cruise control didnt turn on for about 15 miles.
